What We Do
The Chicago Peace Corps is an organization committed to dismantling the school-to-prison by fostering restorative justice efforts in Chicago schools and communities. The CPC is being incubated and housed at The University of Chicago Institute of Politics. Programming will begin with placing volunteers in Richards High School starting September 2015. Volunteers will be trained in Peace Circle keeping and other restorative justice and conflict resolution strategies.
We are excited to see our first group of volunteers learning about and working with the Back of the Yards community.
With the support of the SSPI and our founding background in the Shriver Method, the CPC would like to take up Sarge's call to action in Chicago. We ask our volunteers and the community at large to Break Your Mirrors! Too often we are focused on our own lives and problems and miss out on important connections waiting outside the reflection of what we already know about our communities and ourselves. Peace circles and outreach across Chicago allows our members and community partners to break their mirrors and discover the life-changing connections and relationships with people and places that don't necessarily reflect what we already know about ourselves.
